Need help! pregnant???????

My buddy thought he had a girl pregnant.. since the missed period two weeks ago she has taken 4 preg. Tests..the first was unreadable and the other 3 were negative.. since then she has had spotting and believes she is pregnant because of it.. is this very possible? could this be true or what could spotting be?
