Is it a bad thing to text a guy friend when I have a boyfriend?

There's a friend I recently met at school he's a cool guy to talk to...I have no bad intentions whatsoever and neither does he, he knows I have a bf so we are just buddies nothing more than that and I been with my bf for 3 years now...so is it bad that I have a male friend that asked me for my number so we can just text?
