Why are they trying to be friends with me?!?

well are you a girl? Cause they probably think your hot... if not, they probably think you will help them pass their classes or something... But whats wrong with making a few friends? I would suggest being nothing more than an acquaintance with them and who knows, you might actually enjoy their company.
